Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Swimming Squad coaches will be responsible for coaching swimmers within the Caulfield aquatics squads program.
Swimming Squad Coaches will prioritise personal best, together with the welfare and development of each student and support swimmers to train and compete with a high level of sportsmanship and support for their peers. Caulfield Grammar Squad Coaches are continuously identifying and managing any safety risks and protecting swimmers under your care.
Squad Coaches will provide high quality coaching to various School swim squads and Caulfield Aquatics members to improve swimmers’ technique and ongoing development. Coaches will support the Schools APS talent identification pathway and continuously progress athletes. Coaches will be required at various internal and external meets/competitions.
They will take pride in supervising such an important community asset and ensure it is always presented immaculately and maintained to the highest standards. They will work closely with the Swimming Lessons program to teach and develop future talent into Caulfield Aquatics.
Squad Coaches must be available to work a mixture of early morning, daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. In addition to this you may be asked to work across Caulfield campus and Wheelers Hill campus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coaching
Provide a high quality teaching environment to support Caulfield Aquatic members to achieve and thrive
Clear process for technique development and stroke correction
Best practice teaching methods with a growth mindset
Conduct coaching sessions on a daily basis for all levels and abilities
Maintain qualifications and seek out learning opportunities
Experience and skill to identify talent and develop coaching programmes to progress swimmers at optimal rate
Implementation/support Holiday intensive training schedules, learn to swim and technique sessions
Implement coaching programs for youth, adults and access all abilities
Provide lesson plans each term for all aspects of the coaching program
Drive and increase the number of participants across all coaching programs by the agreed KPI each year
• Support to establish new coaching programs based on community needs
Perform duties in line with procedures and training
Welcome and educate new participants so they feel comfortable in the aquatic environment
Assist to develop a Performance Training and Competition Plan and work with coaches to confirm same across other squads
Assist to develop an Annual Schedule of activities
2. Health and Safety of all staff and customers
Identify potential risks to safety and take steps to reduce those risks
Implement and monitor compliance to policies and procedures
Discuss health and safety with other staff, on every shift
Oversee the evacuation of the aquatic environment in accordance with procedures as required
Act as Area Warden for the aquatic area when instructed
Risk assess work instructions to identify any hazards and act to rectify any identified risks
Ensure the dissemination of OHS, Risk and Environment information to any staff working in the aquatic area relevant to their roles and responsibilities, including Caulfield Grammar School staff
3. Outstanding service delivery to all customers and stakeholders

4. General duties and administration
Provide the frontline service for all facility programs and services
Proactively address all enquiries, ensuring that suitable outcomes are provided to each individual customer
Ensure all reports, checklists and procedures are completed and signed off by the Duty Captain
Squad coaches may from time to time be required to undertake other tasks as directed by the Duty Captain, Head of Facilities or Leisure Manager
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Current First Aid Certificate - HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
Current CPR Certificate – HLTAID001 provide CPR
AUSTSWIM Teacher and Water safety or Swim Australia (SCTA) equivalent, staff must also be pursuing Competitive strokes qualification.
(Staff must be competitive strokes qualified within 12 months of role commencement)
Working with Children Check (or equivalent)
As per GSPO’s, Squad Coaches will be required to maintain certain fitness requirements:
Undertake an annual medical assessment by an Authorized Health Professional (registered Medical Practitioner or General Practitioner) or; Complete an annual self-declaration medical questionnaire (which may be further assessed by a General Practitioner if the employer deems it necessary)
Swim 50M on front, 50M swim on back, 1 minute treading water.
Desirable
Current SCTA Bronze/ Silver Level Coaching License and above
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent workplace experience
Current Pool Lifeguard Award -SISSS00111 Pool Lifeguard
