Aligned Leisure is a 100% owned subsidiary of the Richmond Football Club, established as a vehicle to manage the operations of Richmond’s health, fitness and leisure business activities. Job Description

The Fitness Captain will provide leadership and direction to a team of group fitness professionals throughout Cardinia to deliver exceptional service to our customers.

They will ensure group fitness areas and classes are maintained and presented in the highest possible manner to our customers. They will ensure the fitness professional team assist to maximise membership sales and retention, whilst at the same time, providing a motivating and exciting environment for people to exercise and achieve their goals. They will ensure the timetable is meeting the needs of our customers and manage the program within budgets.

The Fitness Captain will engage with older adults outside of class times to enhance social engagement and ensure that Aligned Leisure programming is continuing to meet their needs. They will coordinate a range of regular social engagement activities, liaising with Council Age Friendly team to maximise participation in Cardinia Shire programs and services.

The Fitness Captain is a critical customer facing role and as such, will be required to work shifts that are in line with busy member attendance periods. This role is a combination of administration duties (15 hours), a minimum of 2 gym shifts and a minimum of 2 group fitness classes per week.
They will work relentlessly to implement the Aligned Leisure values of AWARE, DISCIPLINED, RELENTLESS and UNITED.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Group fitness programs
  • Day to day operations of the Group Fitness timetable and programs in Cardinia, including supervision and direction of all group fitness staff.
  • Delivery of group fitness and age friendly programs and services in accordance with annual plans.
  • Setting of rosters and timetables within agreed annual budgets.
  • Drive participation in group fitness programs and actively support initiatives to attract and retain members.
  • Provide regular group fitness information for all Cardinia Leisure communication channels.
  • Work with the gym team to integrate Group Fitness into members programs.
  • Identify members at risk of leaving, providing additional support to maintain their fitness programs at Cardinia Life.
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge of latest industry trends.
  • Support the Head of Fitness in the delivery of health and fitness programs in accordance with annual plans.
  • Ensure all reports, checklists and procedures are completed.
  • Weekly occupancy analysis.
  • Work with Head of Fitness and Head of Customer experience to market programming to increase participation.

 

  1. Age Friendly Programming and Engagement
  • Be visibly present and engaging with all members who fit the Age Friendly profile.
  • Actively drive participation to fitness and social programs from a variety of sources.
  • Welcome and educate new participants so they feel comfortable in the fitness environment.
  • Identify members at risk of leaving, providing additional support to maintain their fitness programs at Cardinia Life.
  • Engage with appropriate groups and Council officers.
  • Create a fun and engaging social program to support Councils Age Friendly Strategy.
  • Coordinate social opportunities including events, meals and activities.
  • Drive participation in social opportunities.
  • Ensure social engagement occurs not just at events, but around timetabled programs.
  • Link Aligned Leisure social opportunities with those of Council.

 

  1. Gym operations
  • Supporting Head of Fitness in delivering a clean, safe and welcoming gym environment.
  • Supporting Head of Fitness in day-to-day operation of gym.
  • Actively seek feedback from members on how to increase participation, engagement and retention.

 

  1. Program Development
  • Actively seek feedback on programs and services, to input into service planning.
  • Influence program development and planning to ensure it meets the needs of the community, including older adults.
  • Ensure all Cardinia Leisure facilities are considered in group fitness and age friendly planning.
  • Ensure programs and services are delivered at a variety of locations or are accessible to all to maximise Shire wide participation.

 

  1. Health and Safety of all group fitness staff and customers
  • Comply with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Ensure instructors understand their requirements during an evacuation or emergency.
  • Implement and documents hazard and environment inspections, risk assessments, risk controls and corrective actions.
  • Risk assess work instructions to identify any hazards and take action to rectify any identified risks.

 

  1. Outstanding service delivery to all customers and stakeholders
  • Aligned Leisure will be renowned for delivering outstanding service and providing memorable experiences for our customers.  In your role, you will be relentless in identifying these opportunities and you will always ask yourself “How would I want a member of my family treated in this situation?”

The Fitness Captain may from time to time be required to undertake other tasks as directed by the Head of Fitness and Community Engagement.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Qualifications and Experience:       

  1. Experience in fitness leadership
  2. Fitness Australia certified
  3. Certificate 3 in Fitness or equivalent
  4. Group Exercise certificates (varied)
  5. Current First Aid and CPR certificate
  6. Working with Children Check
